About the Festival
Welcome to the Midsummer Tango Festivalito in Helsingborg! This annual event is a delightful celebration of tango amidst the vibrant Midsummer festivities unique to Sweden. Scheduled for June 18-21, the festival encapsulates the joy of traditional Swedish Midsommar with tango workshops, social dances and inclusive cultural events like celebration of Midsummer at open air culture museum Fredriksdal and meals together.

Tango Workshops

Engage with professional tango trainers in specially crafted workshops that suit dancers of all levels! On Saturday: with Carina Calderon & Alfredo “Oso” Astesiano! Masters of Tango Argentino – Tradition, Technique & Soul On Sunday: Technique and history with Acacio Coelho. Lessons are planned at Stampus: Saturday: 10.15-11.30 and 11.45-13.00 Sunday: 10.15-11.30 and 11.45-13.00

Afternoon and evening Milongas

Enjoy enchanting tango milongas in various unique venues amidst mid-summer vibes. During the afternoon-erly evening more suited for experiements and easy going mingle; night milongas for a dive into music and mystery.

City of Tango

Embark on a curated tour of Helsingborg, embellishing exploration with tango stops and meetings. Feel free to post in our facebook group about your interest for eventual shared living or lessons participation! We will post information about where in the city you can eat or drink apart from the festivalito, in a tango-friendly atmosphere. Write to us about any questions connected to your stay, we will do our best to guide you around.

Thursday Welcome

Tania Bauder

On the first evening of the festival we experience a transfer from the summer of today and summer of pre-Christian midsummer solstice celerattion, with the host of the festival Tania Bauder playing more (and less) traditional music for tango.

Friday afternoon

Marcela Troncoso (Argentine/ Sweden)

Coming back from Midsummer celebration in the park, get ready to dive into the classics of tango music, with a tango queen of South Sweden, Marcela Troncoso!

Acacio Coelho (Portugal/Hungary)

Acacio is a dancer at heart, and chooses the musics that inspire persons to enjoy the fun and happiness of dancing. He loves to say "Music is everywhere" and we will enjoy his selection of both alternative music well suited for tango on Saturday afternoon, as more traditional on the Friday night. He is one of our recurring guest teachers and DJs, comes all the way from Porto, Portugal.

Switching back to tradition yet in an dynamic and heart warming vibe, Barney will take us on a ride with his choice of golden age favourites.

On a final day of festivalito we have a chance to enjoy the taste of tango inspiration brought from Italy, by one of the guest teachers and DJ Alfredo "Oso" Astesiano.

ACCOMMODATION
There are several ways to stay in Helsingborg. Midsummer is one of the busiest (and warmest) times of the year, with many Swedes travelling to Skåne, so we strongly recommend booking your accommodation early.You can also post in the festival’s Facebook group if you’re looking for a place to stay—or if you have one to offer. A great way to make new tango friends for years to come! We encourage you to comment on this post:

Camping is another lovely option—bring your own tent or let us know if you need to borrow one. And don’t forget your swimsuit!

I’m a musician or singer — can I participate in the festival?

Yes! If you are a non-professional musician or singer and curious about playing or singing tango, please get in touch with us. We’re happy to create opportunities for new voices and skills to shine in front of a live audience.

Where is the festival held?

The festival takes place at Stampus Helsingborg, part of the local student association. It’s a 10-minute walk from the central station, about 20 minutes from the beach, and right next to a park. You’ll dance on a beautiful wooden floor and can relax in the cosy backyard, perfect for late-night talks, birdsong at sunrise, and cooling your feet after dancing.

Can I invite a friend to Midsummer celebration together to the park?

Yes absolutely, the celebration is a public event open for everyone.
Please observe that there is a fee for entering the park that will be included in the ticket price for participants but not their guests who will have to purchase own ticket at the entrance.

Can I volunteer instead of paying the fee for the full pass?

Sure!In this case we kindly ask you to fill in your information in the registration of volunteers form, here: https://forms.gle/AFhcDcLYkyuFu3dP8
We require approx. 8 hours of work during the whole festival, in exchange for the full pass to the festival.
Please observ: filling in the registration form does not automatically grant an approval of your application. 

Can I buy single tickets at the door?

Yes, single tickets will be available at the door. Please note that door prices are 25% higher than online tickets, so buying in advance is the more affordable option.
